Draughts (British English), Checkers (American English) or Damas (Spanish and Portuguese) is a traditional strategy board game.
Practiced between two players, one player has the dark pieces and the other has the light pieces. The player who captures all the enemy’s pieces, consequently, wins the game.
Casual matches take between 10 minutes and an hour, but in tournaments they can go on for several hours.
There are a lot of modalities, with different boards, number of pieces, and starting positions of the pieces. Some of these modalities are, for example:
International draughts (10×10 board).
Canadian checkers and Singaporean/Malaysian checkers (12×12 board).
The Fédération Mondiale du Jeu de Dames (FMJD, World Draughts Federation) is the international body uniting national draughts federations.
