Pereda, 29, was designated for assignment by the Twins on Jan. 23 following their acquisition of catcher Victor Caratini. He should provide organizational depth behind the plate for Seattle, with Andrew Knizner set to be Cal Raleigh’s primary backup.
The Mariners will be Pereda's eighth organization after he spent time with the Cubs, Red Sox, Giants, Reds, Marlins, Athletics and Twins. Since making his Major League debut for the Marlins on April 17, 2024, he has appeared in 50 MLB games, posting a .595 OPS with six doubles and eight RBIs. Pereda is a career .296 hitter with an .811 OPS in 253 career Triple-A games.
