Zorya Luhansk secured UEFA Champions League play-off round and at least UEFA Europa League after winning 2-1 against Greek side Panathinaikos to win 4-2 on aggregate.
Before the game at the Zorya Stadium, a minute silence was held to once again honour Volodymyr Bilotserkovets who tragically passed away a week ago.
The game started and it was the Greek side who were the better team in the first half but Zorya Luhansk took the lead in the 36th minute thanks to Budkivskyi. Zorya Luhansk went into the break 1-0 up (3-1 on aggregate).
The second half started even better for Zorya as Zahedi doubled their lead in the 60th minute to make it 2-0 (4-1 on aggregate) which made a victory look incredibly likely. In the 86th minute the Greek club got a goal back and it was 2-1 (4-2) and it finished like that.
Zorya Luhansk will now play Dutch club Feyenoord in the play-off round of the UEFA Champions League for a spot in the league phase where if they succeed, they will join fellow Ukrainian clubs Dynamo Kyiv, Oleksandryia and Shakhtar Donetsk in the league phase. If they lose, they will drop down to the UEFA Europa League league phase and join Kryvbas Kryvyi Rih and Polissya Zhytomyr.
