Zorya Luhansk became the first Ukrainian team to compete in a European competition for the 2025/26 season when they faced Greek side Panathinaikos and secured a 2-1 victory in the first leg of the game.
The Greek side initially took the lead just before halftime in the 44th minute and Zorya were 1-0 down going into the break. However, in the 48th minute, Zorya equalized and it was 1-1 just a few minutes into the second half of the game. Then, in the 68th minute, Zorya turned the game around completely and went 2-1 up and managed to keep the lead.
A fantastic result for the Stars, they will play the Greek side again on Wednesday at Zorya Stadium in Luhansk for the return leg. If they win, they will move on to the play-off round where they will play the winner of Feyenoord or Partizan. If they win the play-off game, they will advance to the league phase of the Champions League.
Congratulations Zorya and we wish you luck for the second leg and beyond that!
