As we approach the business end of the season in Ukrainian football, across all leagues, promotion and relegation races are bound to get more interesting in April, the penultimate month of regular season play. And in the Ukrainian First League, history has been made. Volyn Lutsk, a club which has spent nine consecutive seasons in the second tier following relegation in 2015-16, have returned to the top flight for the 2025-26 season, following their 1-0 win away at Viktoria Sumy.

In order to get promoted, they needed Livyi Bereh Kyiv to drop points away at Desna Chernihiv, and that game saw Desna beat Livyi Bereh 2-1, and they then needed to beat Viktoria Sumy away, and they did, managing to scrape a 1-0 victory, which saw them move up to 82 points, which is now enough to finish in the top 2, and thus enough to be promoted in Matchday 31/38.

Volyn Lutsk will definitely go down as one of the best teams in Ukrainian First League history, if not THE best! They've broken several records this season. They had the longest unbeaten run in Ukrainian First League history, going 28 games unbeaten - 24 wins and 4 draws. It ended last week, when they lost 4-0 to Tavryia Simferopol. They also broke a record yesterday, being the quickest team to secure promotion, with 7 games to spare.

Volyn Lutsk could also break another record. They currently are on track to break the points record in the Ukrainian First League, which was set by Kryvbas Kryvyi Rih last year (98 points). As it stands, based on PPG, Volyn Lutsk are projected to finish with 101 points.

Regardless, Volyn Lutsk will be guaranteed to play top flight football next season, and the UPL can't wait to welcome them back! Lutsk are finally being represented in the top flight again.
