Weekend Recap: Sunderland, Aston Villa and Brentford surprise the title contenders

On Friday evening Leeds and West Ham begun the weekend of football. Leeds took an early 2-0 lead and a late goal from Mateus Fernandes wasn't enough for West Ham who suffered their third loss in a row. With the three points Leeds are now six points clear of the relegation zone.

Sunderland were the first team to cause a big upset during the weekend. An extra-time goal form Chemsdine Talbi completed a 1-2 away win against Chelsea. Sunderland are impressively all the way up in fourth place after the weekend. Newcastle took a vital 2-1 win over Fulham and climbed up to 11th in the table. Fulham on the other hand are currently in 17th only three points clear from the relegation places. Man United are on their longest win streak under Ruben Amorim as they took a 4-2 win over Brighton. Brighton fought back from a 3-0 situation but Bryan Mbeumo sealed the deal on added time. Liverpool suffered their fourth consecutive defeat as Brentford beat them 3-2. Through the result Liverpool have fallen down to seventh place and seven points behind Arsenal at the top.

On Sunday Arsenal beat Crystal Palace 1-0 as Eberechi Eze scored against his former club. Bournemouth beat Nottingham Forest 2-0 in Sean Dyche's first league game in charge of Nottingham. Aston Villa surprised Man City with a 1-0 victory which put Villa up to 8th place. Burnley took all three points from Wolves with a 3-2 result through a late Lyle Foster winner. After Burnley's win, all three promoted teams managed to grab a win on the same weekend. Everton and Spurs completed the weekend and Spurs emerged victorious with a 3-0 result. Micky van de Ven scored two corner-kick goals on the opening half.
