The start of the Premier League season was highly waited and did not disappoint football fans. The teams provided some upsets and some big wins on the opening weekend.

The football world turned its eyes towards Anfield on Friday where Liverpool and Bournemouth kicked off the campaign. Liverpool paid their respects to their tragically deceased forward Diogo Jota with a 4-2 win. Bournemouth came back from a two goal deficit, but late goals from Federico Chiesa and Mo Salah sealed Liverpool's opening win.

More action was seen on Saturday with five matches. Aston Villa and Newcastle drew 0-0 in the lunch fixture that opened the day. The biggest shock of the afternoon was provided by Sunderland, who marked their return to the Premier League with an impressive 3-0 win over West Ham. Fellow promoted side Burnley fell to a 3-0 defeat against Tottenham, who began their new era under Thomas Frank. Brighton and Fulham drew 1-1in the other 3pm game. Pep Guardiola's Man City took all 3 points at Wolves with a 0-4 scoreline. New signings Rayan Cherki and Tijjani Reijnders both scored in their debut.

Chelsea and Crystal Palace faced off on Sunday in the first London Derby of the season. The match didn't quite meet the expectations as it ended in a 0-0 draw. Keith Andrews got off to a losing start as the Brentford manager. The Bees suffered a 3-1 defeat away at Nottingham Forest. Sunday was rounded off with a legendary matchup between Man Utd and Arsenal. Arsenal emerged victorious 0-1 with a corner-kick goal early in the first half. Leeds and Everton play their opening fixture on Monday and Premier League action returns again on Friday evening.
