Season Preview: West Ham hoping for some positive signs
last year - 8/8/2025 3:04 AM GMT-3
West Ham have been a consistent Premier League club ever since 2012. In 2021 and 2022 West Ham broke into the top 7 of the league and therefore qualified for European competitions. In 2023 David Moyes guided them to a Europa Conference League title. In the 2023-24 season Moyes guided the Hammers to a 9th place finish before leaving the club. Former Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui was appointed as his replacement but he was sacked in January. Graham Potter came in to steer the ship but his impact wasn't noticeable. Now Potter has a chance to prove himself in his first full season at London Stadium.
West Ham haven't had the busiest transfer window so far. The most expensive signature has been the permanent signing of defender Jean-Clair Todibo who spent last year on loan at the club. Young left-back El Hadji Malick Diouf joined from Slavia Prague and two experienced Englishmen Kyle Walker-Peters and Callum Wilson on free transfers.
There are some notable departures for West Ham however. Winger Mohammed Kudus joined Tottenham after two succesfull seasons with the Hammers. Many long-time West Ham players also left at the end of their contracts. These included Vladimir Coufal, Lukasz Fabianski, Kurt Zouma and Michail Antonio. So far these departures haven't really been matched by new arrivals.
For West Ham some new signings are still needed this window. The overall quality of the squad has definitely decreased from last season. Especially some attacking power would come in handy. West Ham could be falling closer towards the relegation fight.
My prediction: 16th
