Burnley's last few seasons have been the definition of up and down. After 6 years in the Premier League, the Clarets were relegated in the 2021-22 season. Vincent Kompany guided them to an immediate promotion as champions but failed to avoid relegation back to the Championship. Now under Scott Parker, Burnley managed to achieve automatic promotion once again as Championship runner-ups.

As any promoted team Burnley has spent large amounts of money this summer to strengthen their team. The main focus has clearly been in defense, where left-back Quilindschy Hartman, centre-back Axel Tuanzebe and experienced right-back Kyle Walker have been signed. Burnley have also made many loan deals permanent as Marcus Edwards, Jaidon Anthony, Zian Flemming and Bashir Humphreys all joined with permanent deals.

The big loss for Burnley this summer has to be goalie James Trafford. Trafford joined from Manchester City before the 2023-24 season and spent two years at the club. City however activated his buy-back clause this summer and Trafford moved back to Manchester. Young german goalie Max Weiß might now become Burnley's number one keeper under tough circumstances.

With the current signings Burnley will have a tough time in the Premier League. Burnley struggled to score goals in the Championship last year and without any marquee signings up front, this season will be even tougher. In addition, their biggest backbone in Trafford has left the club.
