MOUZ overcome Brollan captaincy doubts with PGL Cluj-Napoca trophy

MOUZ emerged victorious at PGL Cluj-Napoca, defeating Falcons 3-1 to claim their first arena event title in six years. This victory marked a major milestone for core players xertioN, torzsi, and Jimpphat, who had previously won studio events but struggled to succeed on the big stage. It was also a defining moment for Brollan, who faced heavy scrutiny after taking over as in-game leader following siuhy’s removal.
Despite initial doubts, Brollan proved his leadership abilities, leading MOUZ to their first major trophy with Spinx in the lineup. The team had a rough start earlier in the season, exiting IEM Katowice in last place, but that setback was largely due to playing without a full roster. In Cluj-Napoca, however, MOUZ looked far more composed and determined, securing a well-earned championship.
Falcons struggled in the grand final, with degster and Magisk having slow starts. NiKo, despite being the tournament MVP, had a tough time on Ancient, losing several key opening duels and finishing with a 2-9 record in those engagements. His struggles in the final contrasted with his otherwise outstanding event, where he had been a dominant force in previous matches.
xertioN delivered a standout performance, recording a 1.21 rating in the final and shining on Dust2 (1.58) and Ancient (1.55). He had long been labeled a “group stage merchant,” but this event proved he could perform under pressure. His synergy with torzsi was crucial in shutting down Falcons’ offense, particularly on Dust2, where MOUZ’s defense left little room for mistakes.
MOUZ did show vulnerabilities, particularly on the T side, where they struggled to secure rounds on Mirage and Nuke. Falcons nearly mounted a comeback on Nuke after a NiKo ace in the pistol round, but a key 1v1 clutch from torzsi helped MOUZ regain control. While Brollan’s leadership has proven effective, there are still areas to refine in their strategic approach.
Despite their loss, Falcons showed significant improvement in just their second event with NiKo. Their wins over Eternal Fire and FaZe in the playoffs, as well as an earlier victory against MOUZ in the group stage, demonstrated their potential. Though they fell short in the final, they have positioned themselves as serious contenders moving forward.
With this victory, MOUZ has cemented itself as a top team, proving that the changes to their roster were justified. If Brollan and company can build on this success and continue refining their play, more titles could follow in 2025.
