MAJOR UPSETS IN THE PRELIMS: Season 1 Preliminary Finals Report

Preliminary Finals week has ROCKED the baseball world. Following strong seasons from #1 DK Wilds (7-1) & #2 Luigi Knights (5-3), BOTH TEAMS have suffered crushing defeats in the Prelim Finals.
Both teams had a strong start to the Preliminary Finals, winning both of their first series games:
DK Wilds (4) DEF Bowser Monsters (3)
Luigi Knights (4) DEF Peach Monarchs (3)
Game 2 in both series' saw high scoring games with both entirely different results. Whilst the Wilds almost completed a comeback from a 1st inning 7-point deficit, the Knights had absolutely no chance and got blown out of the water in the first inning forcing a mercy rule.

Many upset Knights fans took to social media to blame the league for enforcing the "unfair" mercy rule at the bottom of the first inning. @KnightsZone tweeted: "league is cooked. wilds allowed to come back from 7 points down but we dont get a second chance #rigged". Opposition fans very quickly pointed out about how the team shouldn't've been 10 runs down in the first place.
Unfortunately for both teams, the heartbreak would continue on into Game 3.
A dominant display from Bowser and the Monster team held the Wilds from scoring until it was too late in the 5th inning. Only scoring 2 runs when they had to chase 7 in the final inning. The Wilds went down in Game 3, eliminating them from the Finals.

The Knights on the other-hand had a close game with the Monarchs. The game would go into extra innings after a 5-5 stalemate at the end of the 5th. Birdo would hit a 3-run Home Run to get a handy 3 point lead. However this would not be enough to stop the Monarchs as they would walk off the game in a tight 1 point win, ending the Knight's season.

Following each game, the team captains gave addresses to the media:
"Clearly we didn't play our best during the last couple of games this season and unfortunately those two games were a couple of the most important games" a defeated Donkey Kong addressed a journalist regarding the collapse of his team.
Luigi didn't say much in his interview. He was distraught by how his club was eliminated in two gut-wrenching matches. "We're going to have to make some adjustments if we want to avoid the same mistakes as this season" was one of the few things he said during his conference.
Bowser and Peach on the other hand were ecstatic to overcome their higher ranked opponents.
"I told you guys we were going to crush those DK Wilds!", "To come from 4-4 this season and take down the 7-1 Minor Premiers will be forever part of the history of this great organisation".
Peach was a lot less cocky with her conference and was humble towards the fact that the Monarchs took down #2 Luigi Knights. "Our team needed to play their best and they did exactly that". "To come against a powerful team like the Knights and put on that performance is the reason why we're lucky to be in a Premiership Final #series".
#3 Bowser Monsters will take on #4 Peach Monarchs in the inaugural best-of-5 Premiership Final Series to determine the Mario Sluggers Premiership for Season 1.
