Mario Sluggers Premiership

After a crazy inaugural first season, the regular season fixture has concluded. There were many highs and lows of the season that has lead to the Sluggers Premiership Finals Series.

This is what the ladder looked like at the end of Season 1:

1st - DK Wilds (7-1)
2nd - Luigi Knights (5-3)
3rd - Bowser Monsters (4-4)
4th - Peach Monarchs (3-5)
5th - Mario Fireballs (1-7)

Following the final game of regular season, all captains gathered for press conferences in Mario Stadium.

“We very proud to have almost perfect record!” Donkey Kong announced with excitement. “Our team played very hard all season! We feel like we already have one hand on the cup!”

Luigi addressed the media about the Knights relegation from first place in the last couple of rounds of the season: “Our game got pretty sloppy over the last couple of rounds. Obviously I’m disappointed that we couldn’t hold first place and win the minor premiership, but the main goal is to win the whole thing, you know?”

Bowser discussed the Monster’s 4-4 record: “Our season was very mid! We had some games where we should’ve won! We need to find our consistency, and quick!”

Peach spoke about how Season 1 didn’t turn out the way that she hoped, but was still thankful for the Monarchs to appear in the finals: “During the first couple of rounds, we shared the bottom with the Fireballs. It wasn’t until Round 4 that we finally got that 8-3 win that took us up to 4th spot”. Peach also spoke about the Monarch’s last game, beating the 2nd place Knights 3-1: “Up until the final game, the only team we beat all year was Mario’s Fireballs. To beat a genuine contender was a huge morale booster for our team heading into the finals. It’s the sort of hope our team needed for this season’s finals”. Peach made it very clear that her underdog Monarchs side is ready to take on the world, despite finishing 4th.

Mario confronted the media about the Fireball’s 1-7 record following the release of several players recently: “This season was never in our favour unfortunately and imma not necessarily afraid to admit that the changes made recently to our list were necessary to stay competitive for next season”.

The Preliminary Finals Round will start the Season 1 Sluggers Premiership Finals Series. Each qualified team in this round plays a best of three matches. The winners advance straight to the best-of-five Grand Final Series.

“We beat Monsters every time we play them! We expect to come out on top!” Donkey Kong excitedly explains to the media.

“Everytime we play DK we always get so close! This time we will crush the Wilds!” Bowser addresses in regards to the previous encounters with the Wilds.

“We’ve had a good season this year but had that hiccup with the Monarchs in our last game. Hopefully we can prove we’ve overcome our late season slump and push into a Grand Final”, Luigi mentions the Knights recent struggles, but aims to re-locate the team’s form.

“Our last few games have been mostly close calls. Hopefully after our breakthrough against the Knights, we can prove ourselves once again”, an optimistic Peach addresses to the media.
