The DeSorio Eagles survived a high-scoring thriller Wednesday night, narrowly defeating the Vale Eagles 43–40 in a clash that went down to the final seconds.
Both offenses exploded early, trading touchdowns in a back-and-forth first half that had the crowd on its feet. DeSorio struck first with a long touchdown drive capped by a short run, but Vale immediately answered with a 47-yard strike through the air. From there, neither team could pull away as the scoreboard lit up quarter after quarter.
By halftime, the score was already 28–27 in favor of DeSorio, setting the stage for a dramatic finish. The second half brought more fireworks as Vale leaned on its passing attack, while DeSorio countered with a balanced ground-and-air approach.
The defining moment came late in the fourth quarter. With Vale down 43-32 and needing a touchdown and a quick defensive 3 and out head coach Tony Durr kept the offense out after the touchdown to try for the 2 points and got it with a trampled run up the middle but didn't have enough time left in the 4th quarter so the DeSorio offense took the knee to seal the win.
“This was a battle,” said coach Weller after the game. “Vale is a tough, talented team, and I’m proud of how our guys dug deep when it mattered most.”
Vale’s quarterback threw for over 300 yards and three touchdowns in a valiant effort, while DeSorio’s balanced attack proved just enough to come out on top.
With the win, DeSorio improves to 2–3 on the season, keeping their momentum rolling in early league play. Vale, now 1–3, showed resilience and offensive firepower despite the narrow loss, signaling they will be a dangerous opponent the rest of the year.
