Shizukesa Town lift the National League - Inaka secure a playoff spot
last year - 10/26/2024 8:53 AM GMT-3
Having missed out on the previous season's playoff spot, Shizukesa have not allowed such an upset again and looked destined for the title from the start. They can look back at some memorable results, such as a 6-0 demolition against Inaka Athletic, which became a new league record for the biggest win, or a convincing 4-0 victory over 2nd placed AFC Kitanai. They have only lost a single league game this season, 1-0 away at Chikai City.

"It's crucial that we've been able to build on last season's upset and not let anything of the sort happen this season. It's a shame we won't go unbeaten because of a single game, but that's football. The guys have already started celebrating, so if you'll excuse me, I don't want to miss this party." said the Shizukesa manager and ran off.

AFC Kitanai find themselves in the 2nd place, which this season grants direct promotion as well. Last season, they've finished 9th, only 2 points above last place - nobody gave them a chance when talking about promotion candidates, yet they've secured it early on.

The Kitanai manager excitedly commented: "It's not been easy, after last season I had to convince everyone that I am the right man for this job and I'm glad I've succeeded. Although winning the title would've been perfect, nobody is complaining. After all, we're going to play in the prem next season!"

Inaka Athletic have secured a playoff spot after an unexpected win over playoff rivals Kyori Town. This leaves Chikai City and Kyori Town fighting for the final playoff spot in a direct encounter on the very last matchday, while FC Shinzo miss out after a 4-0 loss to Chikai City.

"I used to dream of a season like this. But it's not over just yet, we want to finish as high as possible and then the playoff will be extremely difficult. Can we do it? It's too early to say." the Inaka manager cautiously commented.

"Of course it's upsetting that we have to rely on the final league game of the season, but we have the strength to make a grand return. However, we also have the AFA Cup final to focus on, so I'll have to make sure we don't slip up." said the Kyori manager.

The Chikai manager kept it short: "We have the high ground over Kyori, I'm confident we can get a result next week."

The Shinzo manager was clearly upset: "We've just fumbled the key game of the season. It turned into a beating after we started desperately searching for an equalizer. Everyone at the club knows we could've done it, but we were unlucky."
