APL & ANL Matchday 1 highlights: Takishingu versus City ends up in a bloody conflict, Kutsu catches Kaigan off guard
last year - 7/6/2024 8:01 AM GMT-3
Takishingu United - Atarashi City
FT 0-1

The police had to intervene as the stadium and the area around it became a battlefield, 30 people have been detained on the spot with more to come after identification of the culprits. The mostly uneventful match made the stadium explode as City scored a goal in the 76th minute that remained unanswered. The referee made a controversial call as Takishingu was denied a penalty in the 88th minute.

"I condemn the violence happening as a result of the game. Violence has no place in football. The referee didn't do a good job, but neither did our players. We rightfully lost, and the only thing we can do about it is come back stronger next week against Takai." the Takishingu manager commented.

"The boys did a great job today, this might've been our toughest match of the season and we took all three points. The possible penalty? I haven't seen the moment myself, but I believe the referee made the best call possible." said the City manager.

AFC Kutsu - Kaigan Athletic
FT 1-0

APL debutants Kutsu take all three points as Kaigan struggle in the league as well. The free kick goal in the 56th minute was followed by heavy time wasting which resulted in two yellows for Kutsu.

The Kutsu manager was ecstatic: "What the guys did today is incredible. With how things are coming along, we might be able to achieve our goals much faster."

The Kaigan manager, on the other hand, was furious: "I haven't seen worse time wasting in ages. The ref should've given out way more yellows, two were definitely not enough. We're struggling to score and poor refereeing is not helping us at all."

Atarashi FC - Shihon FC
FT 1-3

Possibly the best match of the round saw Atarashi take the lead early in the 5th minute. Shihon didn't give in and managed to equalize in the 33rd minute, taking a draw into halftime. The second half was all Shihon as they scored in the 56th and 92nd minute, taking the three points home.

The Atarashi manager had no excuses: "We were simply not good enough. The early lead made us too confident and we started attacking more and more carelessly."

The Shihon manager was satisfied with the result: "This is a sign that our efforts are making a difference. An away win against Atarashi is very valuable in the title race which should include us this time."
