Ultimates Cup qualification: Wild game for Kaigan, City hold on to a win

Francesca Disunited - Kaigan Athletic

Kaigan Athletic failed to get a result in Francesca as they were first behind when Francesca scored in the 22nd minute. They equalized one minute before halftime, giving them enough confidence to take the lead in the 67th minute. But things only went wrong from there. Just a few minutes later, Francesca not only equalized, but also turned the game around with goals in the 76th and then 80th minute. Kaigan could not find a response and they will have to take the matter into their own hands in the second leg at home.
The Kaigan manager summarized the game: "We were the slightly better team, but it's the goals that count. Francesca caught us off guard at their stadium with their lethal counterattacks, so we have to respond at home. I appreciate all the fans that came to Francesca to support us, victory will be ours next week."
Atarashi City - Queño United

A much needed win for the City fans and the manager, this game was not fruitful in terms of goals, even though there were many shots on both sides. The first half had very little to offer. Early in the second half, City finally managed to squeeze the ball into the goal and took the lead in the 57th minute. Queño was unable to respond mainly because of the straight red card in the 73rd minute, and so City take a tight 1-0 lead to Queño for the second leg next week.
A powerful statement from the City manager, as his job finally seems more secure now: "Everyone needed this. The fans, the players, the board, me. It is finally looking bright for our club. I want to personally thank the ultras for not boycotting the game as was rumored, we needed the support. We will need it in Queño even more, so please come to the game next week as well. We can do this."
The second legs will be played on the 10th of July, with Kaigan playing at home and City in Queño.
