APL Matchday 1 - What to expect (Part 1)
last year - 7/1/2024 1:33 PM GMT-3
Shihon United - FC Saitotan

Last season's surprise from the capital will take on a deservedly promoted team from eastern territories. While Shihon has a slight edge in terms of strength, this could be anyone's game. Fans from both sides expect their club to win this game to start off the season well, especially for Saitotan it is important to get as many points as possible early on to dodge relegation.

When asked about the upcoming game, the Shihon United manager commented: "Not many believed in us at the start of last season, predicting we would struggle to stay in the prem. And where did we end up? In a commendable fifth place, not only finishing a whopping fourteen points above relegation, but also directly qualifying for the first ever Ultimates Cup. We left behind clubs way stronger on paper, Kaigan and City. We won both Shihon derbies. Facing Saitotan will be a first for us, but we should be able to properly introduce them to the Premier League."

The FC Saitotan manager was a bit more reserved: "Yes, this amazing team managed to win the National League and get promoted to the prem, but now the tables have turned. In the NL we were predicted to finish in the top three, now we are relegation favorites. Shihon United is a very good team that achieved a lot last season too, but they are beatable. I will try my very best to make sure our fans aren't disappointed, we are not going down without a fight."

Takishingu United - Atarashi City

The most exciting match of the day for most, Takishingu will face City yet again as they previously met in the cup and super cup finals, with Takishingu winning both matches. This of course greatly enraged the City fans, and we are witnessing the start of a new heated rivalry. Takishingu could be in trouble as they start off with some very tough fixtures and to secure the title again, they will need all the points they can get. Meanwhile City has a bit more breathing room with their horrible 8th place finish last season, but this match together with the Ultimates Cup qualification could be the last straw for the City manager.

"We would love to repeat last season's achievements, but let's not get ahead of ourselves, the opposition is strong and will make use of any mistakes we make. Also, there is a bigger fish to fry this season, and I'm sure our fans expect us to focus on international performances more now. I personally dislike when we have to play against the same club just a couple days later, but that is no excuse. We must put on a good performance against City once more." said the Takishingu manager.

"Half of the fans and most media expect me to be gone after either the Ultimates Cup qualification or this game. Hell, I might not even be here for this game if the qualification goes horribly wrong. Nevertheless, I will continue doing what I can for this club to succeed, and this game is very important as Takishingu already beat us in two finals. It's time to return the favor in the league." the City manager commented, persistent despite all the recent hate.
