Takishingu United wins the AFA Super Cup

Takishingu United - Atarashi City
FT 2-0

Those teams previously met in last season's AFA Cup final, where Takishingu United demolished Atarashi City 4-1, claiming the trophy. It wasn't that much of a different story in the super cup this season.

Takishingu hadn't started the semifinals convincingly, relying on sudden death penalties to beat the team from the other side of Atarashi. On the other hand, Atarashi City breezed through their semifinal match by beating Port Takai FC 4-1.

Perhaps it was the fact that Atarashi City wanted to avoid injuries for the Ultimates Cup qualification against Queño United, but they were not convincing at all today and quickly fell behind as Takishingu scored two goals in rapid succession in the 17th and 20th minute, making sure the match is decided early.

"The team is in very good shape right now, especially after that nearly perfect season where we won the double. Even though this competition is not as important, I'm proud of the guys for this performance, they definitely deserve the silverware. There is, of course, always room for improvement - we are striving to get better every time." the Takishingu manager commented.

"I'm very disappointed. We simply cannot play like we played today, if such performances continue to repeat we might be at risk of relegation in the upcoming seasons. This wasn't the same team that beat Takai 4-1 a couple days ago, and we need to figure out why. I believe the board and fans will give me enough time to do so." said the City manager.

The two teams face each other in the opening fixture of the Premier League on the 6th of July, with Takishingu having the home advantage once more.
