After a tense and thrilling first week, the Cambridge Countdown competition announced itself with a bang.
Following a tense battle for the top 3 spots between Will Mckinley, Matthew Stone, and Lucas Mardle, it was Will who emerged victorious with 201 points and 7 wins out of 7 to open his season. Matthew came close with 199, but will ultimately rue losing 27-28 in the dying moments to Will yesterday. Lucas started strongly, but began to fade as the week went on and faltered in his chase for top spot - finishing the week 3rd on 165 points.
Jimmy, Agatha, Cameron, and Will B are locked in a tense battle for 4th place, currently held by Jimmy on 146 points. Agatha and Cameron have shown spirit and consistency in their push for 4th, but were just unable to pip Jimmy to the spot. Will Bradley has been faltering recently, with even his point deduction being rescinded on appeal failing to reverse the downward momentum.
Below them, Beth holds 8th spot with a fair degree of comfort on 60 points, trailed by Thomas and Alfie both on 33, although the latter has lost all of his opening 7 games (including a humbling 3-0 defeat to Ginevra).
Stuck fast at the bottom of the table are Naomi and Ginevra, who have shown little talent or desire to improve which must be a disappointment for their fans.
