However, the most notable countries to miss out were England and the Netherlands who will go home wondering what could of been and the analysis of what went wrong will start.
Some exciting fixtures awaite in the round of 16, with Germany taking on Portugal and Italy facing Uruguay. Its also, the first World Cup in history that every confederation has a team representing it at the knock-out stage with Oceania cheering on the Australian's and Africa getting behind Togo and Tunisia.
