Arsenal Kyiv are the first team to drop from the Ukrainian Premier League this season, following their 1-2 defeat against Kryvbas Kryvyi Rih and Olimpik Donetsk's 2-0 victory over Zorya Luhansk. They now sit 10 points behind Olimpik Donetsk, who sit 15th in the league, with 3 games left to play.
They went into their game knowing a loss would all but confirm their relegation against Kryvbas. They got off to a good start, taking the lead in the 3rd minute but Kryvbas leveled not long later in the 12th minute and eventually scored the winner in the 53rd minute.
As of Matchday 31, they sit on 17 points after 31 games. It's been a difficult and disappointing season for the Kyiv club and they will play their 100th season in the Ukrainian First League in 2025/26.
Arsenal Kyiv were actually meant to play in the First League this season, as they were initially relegated following their relegation play-off defeat to LNZ Cherkasy. However, because of Dnipro-1's withdrawal, a play-in tournament involving all four teams which were relegated was played and the winner would be reprived. Arsenal Kyiv beat Metalist 3-0 in the final, so were thus reprived.
Clearly their squad wasn't prepared for UPL football as the tournament took place only two weeks before the start of the season, and it showed very early on in the season. A disappointing season sees Arsenal Kyiv drop out of the top flight after a two year stay and they will be playing second tier football in 2025/26.
