Following Newcastle's victory away to Leeds, Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson made a claim that Newcastle's opponents try harder against his side than against the Magpies. Shortly after, Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan was asked about his thoughts about this claim, and Keegan responded with an outburst, claiming that Ferguson "went down in his estimations when he said that". Keegan also assured that his side are still fighting for the title, and that Manchester United still need a result at Middlesbrough, with Keegan stating that he "will love it if we [Newcastle] beat them" to the title.
