Going into their match away to Southampton, Manchester United were hoping to keep their incredible title fight going after incredibly turning the title race on its head. However, after first half goals from Southampton's Kenneth Monkou, Neil Shipperley, and Matt Le Tissier, United found themselves 3-0 down at halftime. In an interesting dressing room chat, Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson requested that his side change out of their grey away kit into their white and blue third kit, as he believed the former made it hard to see in the sunlit day on the south coast. Manchester United did seem to improve in the second half, not allowing any further damage to the scoreline and even getting a goal back through Ryan Giggs. However, the Saints will still be delighted with an incredible 3-1 victory that will certainly help their chances of survival. United's loss however could be critical to Newcastle, who have been trying to find a way back into the title race.
